And I'm NOT watching it again to find out! ;)Markhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05067504092969936552noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267646817514530908.post-35320307617333344612013-06-29T10:56:14.328-04:002013-06-29T10:56:14.328-04:00Mark, thanks for the House of Bodies review. All 78 minutes (very short for most films, right?).

The film is about a deaf person trapped in a world (room) that he tries to make sense of regularly. What the strained and awkward moments of the film do (particularly exaggerated in the audio cues, music, and even he visual sharpness and style) is force viewers to try to reconcile the visual and aural (auditory) elements of the film. Superficially things may seem strange and B-quality... but the fact is is that when placed on mute, and experienced as if the spectator is deaf, the film oddly isn't that different from a standard mainstream movie.

Then the question must be asked... how do deaf people actually perceive films hearing/sight unimpaired people experience them. Although films have subtitled, watching House of Bodies with text at the bottom of the screen can still be awkward, with the volume down. Yet somehow (mainstream or B-quality) hearing impaired people are able to make sense of standard films, even though their perspective is typically not taken into consideration in standard movie storytelling.

How do they do it?...

Making both the deaf perspective and the film's perspective/approach more seemingly astute.

Just turn the volume off.... u know u want to.

- written by someone who is neither hearing impaired or visually impaired by all standard definitions, yet tried real hard to recognize why those three actors would care enough to make such a film... who knows... maybe they know hearing impaired loved ones who would naturally get itAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17246138740975516461noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5267646817514530908.post-85945868260452425022013-05-03T00:52:11.404-04:002013-05-03T00:52:11.404-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17246138740975516461noreply@blogger.com
